Google invested 12 billion on Motorola trying to find some useful patents that help them kill Apple’s iPhone, what it found was that almost all Motorola’s patents were standards and you can’t suit your rivals using standards patents, so it got caught by the balls by the FTC, Justice Department and has a case pending in Europe.
Any change for Google? Of course, inundate the iPhone with all kind of mobile applications, maps, youtube, google now, everything, make the iPhone looks like a real Google product, this is what it was supposed to look, the iPhone will now belong to Google and their spying, tracking and personal information collector mobile apps, cause Apple won’t ever release an Android app to revert the counter attack US!.
While Google is trying desperately to replace any Apple application from iOS with its own offering, at the same time Samsung is just cooking and milking Android, reaping all the benefits, profits and mindshare about Google’s own platform, killing Motorola and any other rival that attempt to launch smartphones and tablets based on the green robot.
Google understands the real value of iOS and doesn’t want to be left out, it wants to control, mandate and dictate what is good to download and use cause its benefit comes from ads on those apps and more important from the mindshare it generates on people forced to use Google’s apps in some form because Apple hasn’t invested enough to cut users dependency on Google, take the Maps example, it would have been a home run for Apple, but again, it felt sleep just in time to launch it and it was a total mess. I don’t really believe Apple is trying to stop Google from taking over the iOS screen with its apps, but if people get too comfortable with Google, the next step will be jumping to Android to continue enjoying the experience Apple hasn’t achieved with its own apps.
For Google, Motorola is dead, it may launch two or three new smartphones, but Samsung is too entrenched with Android and people associates its mobile phone with Android success, Google hasn’t done more than Samsung to take the platform to its actual position and it’s now Samsung’s Android while the iPhone is starting to look more like a Google’s iPhone on its own merits.
